Mr. TLRT and I certainly qualify as vintage!

White Wednesday over at Faded Charm - this bride is feeling the faded charm!

December 28, 1963

The suburbs of Chicago during one of the coldest winters on record.
Many guests did not make it to the event because of weather.
Two college juniors who thought they had the world by a string.
The flowers were brought to the church in hot boxes meant for food.
The reception was moved to the church library at the last minute
because it was dangerous at -13F to be going in and out and hoping
the cars would start again.  Yes, my hands were that chapped from
weeks of cold weather!  The traditional rice shower was done  inside
the church .... what a mess it was and just as slippery as the ice outside.

It has been a great 47 years.

  2. Oh, happy anniversary! Our 38th is on the 30th -- the same day our son is getting married. What memories you have of that bitterly cold day! Great photos! I'll bet they were sweeping up rice for days!

  7. Happy Aniversary! I enjoyed reading your story. My parents were married on New Years Eve. Daddy always said he needed the tax writeoff.

  8. Oh you girls and your beautiful winter weddings!

My sis was married on New Year's Eve in 1976 in south western Wisconsin and it was -40* We managed to get LOCKED out of my parent's home, and my hubby (then of only a year and a half) who is a Florida boy literally did nearly freeze to death trying to help my dad break back into the house.

  25. Thank you all so much for your sweet comments .... it all seems so long ago, but the day is etched in my mind with so many happy memories to savor after all these years. Still have my dress, although it is a little more "ivory" than it was almost 50 years ago. :-)

  32. I just love your wedding picture and story.

I think the stories of couples who have made it are just wonderful.

I know we are not to be jealous of other people but this is one thing I am. At my age I will never have a happy anniversry of 47 years like my parents and you.

Sound sort of like I am whinning(I'm not really)

    Happy anniversary

  33. Thank you all for enjoying my little flashback in time. It was a great day.

Just a note about the dress .... I remember the absolute shock attack I had 16 years ago when my DD was looking at wedding dresses, can't imagine how much they are now.

My dress was based on an image I tore out of Bride's magazine. You can't see it in these pictures, but it had some pretty lace and beading at the waist and that lovely soft poofy train. All handmade by a seamstress. Cost was $107 including the fabric. :-) The veil was an off the shelf item, the shoes were the cheapest white satin heels I could find ....never to be worn again, so $7.99 seemed like a good idea.

Years later, I actually wore it to a Halloween Ball and had the best time being a bride again, with Mr. TLRT in a tux, my BF in one of the many bridesmaids gowns that filled her closet, and her DH dressed as a priest. Sooooo much fun!

    Happy New Year,
    Candy
