Hi! I've enjoyed your informative blog for a long time. Thanks for all your work! I would like to know if there is any difference in color(shade, darkness, hue) between the 1950's rose color and the post 1986 rose color. Also, how many flaws does a piece have before it's considered a "second"? Thanks so much! -Beth
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of difference between vintage rose (which I always think of as "dusty" rose) and Post 86 Rose. P86 Rose has actually changed a great deal over the last 25 years, so there is quite often a lot of variation in the depth of color on individual items.
ReplyDeleteThere is no hard and fast rule about what makes a "second." If you visit the factory outlet at Homer Laughlin China, there will be thousands of items to choose from in the seconds room. Some of them have obvious flaws and others seem to have nothing wrong with them and closely resemble the "firsts" that you might find at any retailer.

And what is the difference between scarlet and paprika?
ReplyDeleteWhich one is redder?
Scarlet is red.
ReplyDeletePaprika is a dark terra cotta.
Time to add poppy! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat color is similar to Sea Mist? I got my mother a cup to go with her saucer. Though the colors are similar, they clash. The colors on the internet vary so much that I cannot tell. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI purchase the large periwinkle pitcher and the color is not the periwinkle color I've seen in the pictures. The one I purchased looks very muted. Is this common
