(You might want to grab a cup of coffee or a cocktail.....this is a long post!)
Mother Nature cooperated with a nice Spring Rain to set the tone
for an "April In Paris" dinner party.

Dinner is served.
My bell was shown a few weeks ago in a post titled

Party favors for the ladies, the gentlemen will find vintage
cuff links as their favors.

Below is one of the two new salad plates I was able to track down thanks to an ID by a reader of The Little Round Table. The other six have been in my family for six decades. You can read about them in the original post
"Those French Plates" and again in a follow up to that post
"I should have taken French, not German and Spanish..."
The French antique dealer that I dealt with via eBay was just a dream to work with, as we each struggled to communicate in an unfamiliar language. The plates arrived beautifully packed and in under two weeks time! He also included this lovely newly published book on collecting these pieces.

One of the two new plates is called "Le tonnelier" ("The Cooper") shown below.
Images of the original six plates can be seen on the post "Those French Plates"

And the second of the two new plates I have just added to the collection.
Do you see the garden "cloches" ??? It is called "Le galant jardinier" ("The Gentleman Gardener")

The salad plates are vintage faience by Utzschneider & Cie in Sarreguemines,
France, with artwork by Antoine-Albert Richard in a series called "Enfants Richard ." The tin glaze used in faience (aka majolica in Italy) is actually a lead glaze that has been rendered white and opaque by the addition of tin oxide. In the production process, an unglazed article is fired in a kiln and is then dipped in the tin glaze, which is allowed to dry. Designs are then painted on the glaze.

Love these vintage inspired napkins and @ $24 per dozen they are a bargain!

Meissen covered bowl, which was featured in a post last week
"Happy Anniversary Meissen" for Meissen's 300th Anniversary.

Homer Laughlin China Company jam pot.

The copper pieces are all vintage from my collection,
which was featured a few weeks ago on "Warm Wonderful Copper"

Porcelain large platter, probably French, but it could be German.

Milk pitcher by Homer Laughlin China Company.

French decorated fruit bowl is unmarked.

Vera Wang "Infinity" crystal.

The time passed much too quickly, the party is over and we bid Adieu to Paris until next time. Throw your own French inspired dinner party and think of Paris in the Spring!

  2. Wow, what a stunning table! It is wonderful a blogger could help in obtaining the extra plates for your collection. The plate rims are gorgeous. I also love the jam pot...love the lid. That was a great deal for those lovely napkins, too.

  6. Such a lovely scene, I can hear the quiet murmur of voices and the sounds of a meal being taken, in days of old.

Where did you find those wonderful napkins? They are beautiful, with just the right amount of crochet.

  27. Thank you all for the wonderful response to this tablescape.

I sometimes feel like I have a split personality, can't do without the colorful tables I do for everyday dining with my colorful Fiesta ..... but if I had my druthers and a full-time staff, I'd be dining a la Parisian style for each and every meal! This was pretty much the way tables looked the whole time I was growing up in Europe as a kid, except for the visits home to Kansas and my grandmothers' tables set with Fiesta. Must be a real case of "imprinting" that took place, because I really can't do without both styles.

A special thank you to buckeyesue (the first comment on this post!), as it was her ID that led me to the two plates that I added to the collection. It has been a real special time for me, with all the memories associated with these dishes.

For those of you who asked about the "faux" vintage napkins came from The Battenburg Lace Store, Inc. www.battenburglace.com

Ridgely - I printed the sheet music for "April In Paris" off the internet resized it, added the invite text and framed it with a ready made border from Adobe's Photo Elements 5 ..... easy peasy and that way you get just what you want for the cost of a few sheets of copy paper. The placecards were done the same way.

Charlotte your jeans and t-shirt would be more than welcome at this table. just add your rhinestone party favor to your ensemble and you will be all set! (jeans, a t-shit and rhinestones....how can you go wrong! It would be my choice too!)

I thank those of you who liked the music.....I know most people just despise music on websites/blogs ...... but since I do this and I do it mostly for my own amusement, I decided to be totally amused this time with the music! LOL

  28. Oh what a beautiful table! And it's truly encouraging to know that we can still find some wonderful treasures from wonderful sellers on eBay, they get such a bad rap these days, but there are indeed fabulous things to be found there! It's terrific that you are now able to have a party for 8 with your gorgeous plates!

  33. Yesterday I discovered your blog. When I saw your Sarreguemines plates I loved them from the first moment. But the plates with the whole tablescape look like an oil-painting of a opulent ancient feast. Absolutely gorgeous.

  37. Good morning everyone!

Thank you all for visiting and loving my table! It is so much fun to be transported to another time and place, dining should be an adventure, not just a meal!

A special welcome and thanks for your lovely comment to Johanna who found The Little Round table all the way from Germany.

I'll be featuring another set of vintage plates, unmarked but they are French or German with a little cutwork and lavender flowers for one of my Easter tablescapes, so please stop by again and visit.

    Thank you all!

And I loved your sheet music invitations - but then I'm a sheet music lover (although I don't read it I have my own collection of pieces but actually play piano by ear). I did a Christmas card with music as a background. Oh and I liked your music!

  46. Love the table setting.. the music and the ambiance... exquisite... now I have a question... How many plate sets do you have and how do you fit all of them in your closets? I have trouble fitting my one china set sometimes... You are wonderful with all those place settings.. Now tell me.. after you're done setting them up do you actually eat a meal on them? I'd love to know.. :)

  47. Thanks ladies, I'm glad you enjoyed re-visiting this table from last year. :-)

Leslie - when I designed this house, I made sure I had places to store all my dishes ..... but it is still a challenge to keep it all organized. And yes, we do eat meals on most of these tables. When there are only the two of us at The Little Round Table, then I simply remove two of the place settings prior to serving the meal. A pretty table makes anything taste better!
