Which came first?

Which came first the shakers or the Shmoo?

Al Capp's Shmoo became a national craze when it appeared in his
classic comic strip Li'l Abner from August - December 1948

Shmoo savings bond issued by the US Treasury Department in 1949.

A Spring tablescape with a variety of vintage and contemporary elements.
Shmoos reproduce faster than rabbits, although I haven't been lucky enough to
have my shakers spontaneously reproduce as yet.  More details at the end of this post.

    Shmoo!?! I want a shmoo! I remember seeing him as a character on The Flintstones? All I remember was that I thought he was too cute.

    Your tablescape brought a smile to my face, everything about it was beautiful! Although spring is around the corner, sometimes the weather leads me to feel otherwise. Your tablescape was very reassuring. ;)

    Oh You American girls take all that HOMER Laughlin china for granted! I was lucky enought ot find a whole dinner set at a thrift store last year and hae fallen in love with it. I love your settings so much. They are so bright and happy. I wish I could get a lime green set to co-ordintate with my Cinnabar set, but unfortunately I think it will be cost prohibitive to get it sent all the way to New Zealand!! I will just have to be content looking at yours. It's gorgeous!!

    Oh, my goodness you are right...those DO look like Schmoos!!!! I remember being a little kid reading Lil Abner and falling in love with them. I remember crying because they would get eaten! Neat table. Thanks for the fun memory!

    Schmoos and striped ribbon threaded through those plates...ahhhh....be still my heart.

    I love the schmoo shakers. They are behond sweet. I may have to spend a little time on E-bay and ETSY today looking for those.

    OH! I love your shakers ;o) They really do look like schmoos! And your whole tablescape and kitchen is full of beautifu, cheery color!!! I love the ribbon in the plates.     Candy, Very colorful again this week. I love the turquoise and the cup napkin rings. I had never heard of Smoo. Maybe before my time. I always look to see what you do each week. I used to live in the Bay area also 13 years ago. Loved going to Napa Valley.
