I saw this flower bucket re-furb at All Things Related using graphics
downloaded from Kristine Mckay Designs and remembered some French
flower buckets out in my garden shed.
One was pastel yellow, one pastel blue from Michael's years ago,
another was a nice heavy weight authentic galvenized bucket. Some spray
paint, clear sealer and some glaze gave my mis-matched flower buckets
a whole new lease on life.
I printed out the graphics onto scrapbook paper, sprayed with clear sealer, glued down with instant decoupage, let dry, then glazed with a water based glaze from Lowe's. When completely dry all the buckets were sealed with a couple coats of clear sealer.
So my group of mismatched, unloved flower buckets are now destined for
center stage holding roses from my garden this summer.

ReplyDeleteBut what jumped out at me was the aqua-colored glass bottle with the narrow neck and odd handle (in the next-to-last photo, in front of bucket No. 1). I have one just like it, picked up at a flea market. Do you know anything more about yours? Do you use yours as a vase? I found it a bit of a pain to wash and dry, so I'm just appreciating mine on a windowsill for now.

ReplyDeleteI intended to catch up on all the lovely comments from the last couple of weeks this morning! Instead Mr. TLRT and I spent the day redoing my vegetable garden, more about that later. It involves his little orange tractor which he's always ready to bring to any project big or small.
Thanks for all your wonderful comments on my flower buckets! They were a rainy day project a couple of weeks ago ..... we've had way too many rainy days lately! Nothing will be safe from me and my green spray paint if it keeps raining. :-)
Nell - you asked about that little bottle. That one and the others you see in another of these images all came from either Cost Plus or Crate and Barrel back in the mid 90's. I've always used it as a vase ..... re:washing and drying it. If it gets scummy inside, just add a teaspoon or so of Chlorox to it, then fill with water and swirl it around or let stand for a couple of hours. Rinse thoroughly and it will be sparkly clean! Let it dry out in the sunshine. This also works wonders for scummy Hummer feeders, just be sure to rinse very thoroughly to make sure there isn't any Chlorox left in the feeder container.

I found some gorgeous apple green spray paint last year at a yard sale. And have just started using and am in love with it. :) Love your new Frenchy buckets and especially those labels. Happy Voila day.
