More often than not my vintage tablecloths are the inspiration for my tablescapes. The cues come from the graphics and/or the color scheme of the tablecloth. Today's tablescape is different in that the inspiration came from my Grandmother's yo-yo pillow. Look at the tiny little prints used for the yo-yos. Each yo-yo is just about 1½ inches in diameter. The pillow is probably about 80 years old and it led me to today's tablescape.
Next came the flatware, again the mix of multiple colors and prints.
And January roses from my garden. They are not happy campers with temps
in the high 30s F, but aren't they little troopers?

The Yo-Yo was a popular style of hand sewing in America from the 1920-40s. Yo-Yos are circles of fabric gathered up at the edges and sewn together to create a three-dimensional effect. Yo-Yo projects were popular because women could carry the little circles of fabric with them and make Yo-Yos whenever they had a free moment.

ReplyDeleteHi Candy,
ReplyDeletethat is so abolutely fresh, beautiful and springy. I love to see it at the time, all is grey and foggy here. Thank you for that fun.

Hi Candy,
ReplyDeleteYour tablescape is so happy and whimsical! I love it! Lovely white tea set! The big rooster is a handsome fellow and your decor is just so appealing to me especially this time of year right after the holidays when all the glitter and sparkle has been put to rest for another year. I'm so happy you've joined me for Tea Time Tuesday. New friends are always welcome! Have a lovely day.
Blessings,
Sandi
Absolutely stunning table. Love & drool your pink depression dishes.
ReplyDeleteHappy TS...
Greetings from chilly Stockholm,

Thanks so much for all your lovely comments on my little flight of fancy! It really was happenstance that it all came together like this. I was doing some winter cleaning of linens and decided to wash the cover to my Grandma's pillow. I had always been a little wary of washing it with the fabrics used being so old. But I went ahead and did a quick hot Oxyclean dip and it really did brighten the colors considerably. New poly fill and a qick stitch up .... Grandma would be pleased!
ReplyDeleteAgain thanks so much for stopping by to see my tablescape and I hope to see you all again very soon.
Candy
You did a beautiful job! I love it all. Wasn't that nice that your Grandma made the pillow and that you ended up with it and shared it with all of us in such a special way? You make me want to make a yo-yo pillow.
ReplyDeleteThanks
I see a pretty pillow and you see a gorgeous tablescape. What a talent.
ReplyDeleteSo much FUN. I love yo-yo's, and I LOVE the mix-matching on your table!
ReplyDeleteSome of those dishes are just plain fun, while others are grandly gorgeous. Great combinations!
Happy VTT!

Oooooh, can I come to tea at your house?! Everything looks so bright and cheery and cozy! I love that pillow. Being a non sewer, I can only imagine the man hours involved in making it. Just wonderful. Happy VTT!
ReplyDeleteAll the touches here are wonderful. In fact, I can't even tell you what I like best, but anything with yoyos is special, and the flatware...well, like I said I can't pick a favorite when I like so much.
ReplyDeleteWow! Loved this post. Everything looks so colorful in this dreary season.
ReplyDeleteSoo coool!! Everything old is new again. this is such a clever use of fabric yo yos. Love the vintage pillow. So nice that you still have this treasure to enjoy. Only you could mix that much pattern and color and have it work perfectly! I love the yoyo's on that sweater. I have a whole box of them...I'm going to drag them out and try it...super, super charming!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a magnificent link to the letter M.
This was a wonderful visit today for Alphabe-Thursday.
A+
This is absolutely wonderful. The way you mixed the patterns is amazing.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful post Candy!
Beautiful and inviting! Thank for sharing your yo-yo pillow...love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and cheerful. All your dishes are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much ladies! I am always amazed when a particular tablescape is a "homerun." We all have our own style and so many varied ways of making our homes reflect our personal outlook on life, yet this very traditional table with just a little quirky element seems to appeal to a broad spectrum of design inclinations. :-)
ReplyDeleteCandy
Candy...I am a huge fan of yo-yo's and all-things mismatched! Loving your pillow and the flatware BUT my favorite is that embroidered table cloth....gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Gail

ReplyDeleteOh Candy, what a treasure that pillow is, and it's in such great condition! What an amazing array of flatware patterns, and so much fun to see them all used on the same table. I can't believe you still have roses in your garden. They look so pretty. I just love hand stitching on table linens, and this one is so pretty. Thank you for linking to Favorite Things. laurie
ReplyDeleteThanks Gail, Kim and Laurie! I'm amazed at how many people have a soft spot for yo-yos. :-) I think they harken back to a simpler time and in today's world those simpler times hold a great deal of appeal.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you all again very soon,
Candy
That is your home? OH MY GOSH! It's gorgeous!!! Just gorgeous! You are very talented in putting a table together!!
