Inspired By Yo-Yos



More often than not my vintage tablecloths are the inspiration for my tablescapes.  The cues come from the graphics and/or the color scheme of the tablecloth.  Today's tablescape is different in that the inspiration came from my Grandmother's yo-yo pillow.  Look at the tiny little prints used for the yo-yos.  Each yo-yo is just about 1½ inches in diameter. The pillow is probably about 80 years old and it led me to today's tablescape.
Grandma's Yo-Yo Pillow took 64 Yo-yos, that's how many!
Next came the flatware, again the mix of multiple colors and prints.
And January roses from my garden.  They are not happy campers with temps
in the high 30s F, but aren't they little troopers?
Puffy little stuffed bow napkin rings with a tiny print,
and a tablescape came together.
Afternoon tea on a chilly day.
Vintage linen tablecloth, with an embroidered corner detail and hand crocheted edging.

The Yo-Yo was a popular style of hand sewing in America from the 1920-40s. Yo-Yos are circles of fabric gathered up at the edges and sewn together to create a three-dimensional effect. Yo-Yo projects were popular because women could carry the little circles of fabric with them and make Yo-Yos whenever they had a free moment.

    Love it that a Sewing Heirloom was the inspiration for this tablescape. How fun to use so many different patterns in the flatware with the embroidery and patterned dishes. Very creative and inspirationa....as always!

    You are mixing it up this week. That is what I called my tablescape. I think you mixed up more than I did. I just love the flatware! It is so fun. I really like this table. Something so unique about vintage items that they do all go together so well. Just beautiful!

    What a happy little table! I just love how you mixed all the flatwre! This is a table I would love to sit down at. Everyone must be happy who sits at your colorful table!!!!

    I love how you get inspired by so many things :) It's really amazing how your tablescapes look so incredibly beautiful and organized! I really love that tablecloth you shared with us. It's so beautiful and so simple since it's white but that embroidery is enough of an embellishment to make the whole table look perfect :)

    Thanks so much for all your lovely comments on my little flight of fancy! It really was happenstance that it all came together like this. I was doing some winter cleaning of linens and decided to wash the cover to my Grandma's pillow. I had always been a little wary of washing it with the fabrics used being so old. But I went ahead and did a quick hot Oxyclean dip and it really did brighten the colors considerably. New poly fill and a qick stitch up .... Grandma would be pleased!
