A message about changes to TLRT

I've been considering changing the background/font colors
here on TLRT in the last couple of weeks.

I'd like to hear opinions from you about the proposed change to a BLACK background.  Here are three screenshots of what images might look like on black rather than the pale gray that I have been using for the last few months. (It used to be stark white prior to that.)

Too dark?
Too gloomy?
Makes the images pop?
Like it.
Don't like it.
Don't like change.

The text color would change also, so ease of reading white text on a black
background would be a consideration also.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.  Maybe I'll just give it a try for the
weekend and see if anyone objects! LOL

  1. For me, the black is too dark and reading white on black (I can't remember which blog has that) is difficult to read. I like what you have, but it's your blog and you can do whatever you want!! No matter what you decide, your blog is one of THE BEST out there!

  2. I agree with Deb, my personal preference is what you already have. Reading white on black is easier and, this might just be my imagination, the black background seems to take longer to load on my computer. Annie

  3. Thanks for the input .... checking browser function right now .... cause the poll won't allow voting! What's the point??? LOL I'll be back.

  4. I took the poll down because apparently Blogger's poll gadget doesn't work!! Who knew?

So I hope we can just carry on the discussion in the comments and see whether others will voice their opinions.

    Thanks,

  5. The gray is much more reader friendly in my opinion. While the colors pop on the black, it's much too hard for me to focus on the picture, I keep looking to the right or left trying to move the black out of my line of vision. Thanks for asking our opinion.
    Have a great weekend.

  6. Well you could always just have the two.outer part black with the white for the main?

  7. I've added a different polling gadget in at the top of the sidebar that appears to be working!

Please give it a try. :-)

Michelle - I'm using a 2 column template so it doesn't work like most of the templates out there with the two decorative sidebars. Now those really bother my eyes!! Picky picky picky!! LOL

  8. I agree! The black looks too harsh.

  9. Not sure...I kind of like it, but I'm a bit biased. I have a (private) blog on blogger, and I used a black background with white type. I made sure the type is big enough. I think it's ok to read. But only friends & family read it really...maybe try it for a few days? I do think some sort of color is better than white for your blog. I find white too "stark" sometimes. Grey might be the happy medium.

  10. It is already gray, darker gray just makes everything look muddy and is the color of the sky in a Chicago winter, which I left 30 years ago! LOL

Black is NOT winning so far, but it's still early as they say on the networks! Stay tuned.

  11. Hi Candy, Well I visit so often I must say I do like it the way you have it. But you have such wonderful pictures with vibrant colors, I think the black would make it pop!

I feel that the light colored background is too harsh and bright, right now im sitting in LR and sun is setting and the laptop is blinding me so lighter isnt always better. Depends on time of day sometimes.

By the way I am a blog that has a dark black background with white text and never had a problem or complaints...I love it.

  12. Good Morning!

Hoping everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend! So far the consensus of opinion isn't boding well for a change to the black background.

Lucky 7 - the sunlight is part of my problem too! The black background seems to absorb some of that glare!

Wouldn't it be great if Blogger gave us a personal choice as we enter a blog? "Choose your favorite background color" LOL

  13. OK...I may be the odd woman out but I tend to like a darker background. I vote you try it for a couple of days and see what the reaction is. If it causes a complete 'uproar' you can always change it back. Change is good sometimes. Thanks for asking us our thoughts.

  14. I fing reading white or any color text on black to hard to do. I often will pass on those blogs. I have to magnify my page alot to be able to read it. :)

  15. Hi Candy. I'm late weighing in on this, but I don't care for the black background. I like the gray as you have it now. I also find it difficult to read white text on a black background. Your images are full of color and always pop no matter what color the background. All this said, I'd continue to visit your blog no matter what the changes. I'm an avid fan! ~ sarah

  16. Candy, I like the idea of absorbing some of the glare, but count me as one who doesn't like the black. I find it easier to read dark font on a lighter background rather than vice versa. DD#2 loves a black background and I really have to strain to read things on her computer.

  17. Thanks for all your opinions and comments. The poll will run for a few more days, but my guess is that BLACK will not be featured as a background color. :-)

  18. I quite like the gray, but then again I painted my dining room gray to showcase the dishes!

  19. Isn't this interesting ..... as of right now with less than a day to go, the poll results have those in favor of the black background just barely nudging ahead of the no black votes. :-)

Still haven't decided.....if black stays in the lead maybe I'll try it for the weekend and see how it goes.
