I'm joining Laurie for her Bargain Hunting party
A Few of My Favorite Things which is held each Saturday.
I wondered whether I was still loving some of my favorite things from this same week in 2010, and sure enough these are still some of my favorite things.
These favorites were originally posted January of 2010 and I'm still calling
these "favorites."

Vintage Thingies From Grandma's Dresser
Today I'd like to share some keepsakes from one of my grandmothers. These were some of her favorite things and I loved looking at the pretties she kept nearby. The dresser scarf is one that she embroidered and added the crochetted edge to.
One of the atomizers from her dresser top that she let me play
with as a child and some of her hat pins.
Garnets were her favorite and she had quite a collection of them.
A handmade hankie with one of her favorite brooches. Grandma would be right
in style with the renewed interest in crowns these days.
One of her favorite tea cups. We all have a few of them and I think of her
everytime I see this pretty one with all its roses.
Her folding ruler that was always right at her sewing table,
it fascinated me as a child.
And her very stylish plastic handbag that still looks brand new. She wore it everywhere and changed out the hankie liner to match her outfit. Grandma was a stylish gal!!
After I originally posted these images, I did some research on Grandma's handbag and came up with more details.
Here are a few I found.
Same style as Grandma's, but more elaborate. Cost in UK around $284 + shipping to US
Similar style, but with red leather and Lucite.
Thanks so much for stopping by to re-visit some of my Favorite Things!

Grandma's stuff is always the best! Your grandma had some wonderful things, like that purse! And her garnet jewelry is sooo lovely. What wonderful keepsakes they all are!
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT!
Carol
Your Grandma's stuff is just gorgeous. I love it all and your pics are great. I especially love the embroidered linen and the garnets. Oh and that purse! Those treasures are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI guess carol and I agree :-).
ReplyDeleteI love have keepsakes from loved one's. The garnets are beautiful and one of my favorite stones also. The purse is very sweet with the hankie. The teacup is especially precious, I know you treasure all of these things.
ReplyDeleteYour things look very grandmotherly--even the purse with the hanky inside.
ReplyDeleteGrandma would be so pleased at your compliments!
ReplyDeleteShe was quite the vain one and a flirt til the end of her life. :-)
I added a note above to the text, as I forgot to mention that the dresser scarf was one of hers also.
Thanks for stopping by to see my treasures.
What beautiful things you have been blessed with from the past. All of your grandma's vintage collection is very nice.

Those things are wonderful even if they werent your grandmothers but especially because they were. I wish I had things like that from my grandma - but I don't know what happened. things get lost - or thrown out I guess.
ReplyDeleteSo much is unappreciated.
happy vtt! Love the garnets! WOW
So much great stuff; particularly the purse! My dad has a fold-out ruler that my sister and I broke because we loved playing with it so much. I love your blog header, too!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I must say that your Grandmothers Garnets are exquisite and so appropriate for this post as they are January's Birthstone. Was your Grandmothers birthday in January. I have one coming up next week, so I really relate to all things January. How you must have loved her and the memories you have shared here today. Thank you so much...my Grandmother Minnie has the been the topic of many of my posts. I think our Grands would have liked each other very much. This is my FIRST VTT, and I'm finding ever so many wonderful collectors and collections like yours. I hope you'll stop by and see my Head Vase collection.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your lovely comments, Grandma is just beaming!
ReplyDeleteMaureen - I had a hard time choosing a word for the "plastic" purse.....lucite? or acrylic, but was it around back in the 50's? Don't know, but it sure has held up well and is very sturdy.
Re: my blog header
I'm glad so many seem to like this new header. :-) I'm about ready for a new one, can't seem to stick with one for very long. Maybe soon....
The memories are precious and I hope to see you all again next week for Vintage Thingies or sooner if you'd like to check out some of my tablescapes. I'll be posting for Foodie Friday later today, hope to see you all then.
Beautiful stuff. Thanks for sharing. I love all the things that belonged to my grandmother, too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, wonderful treasures-all the more precious as they were your grandmother's.
ReplyDeleteHer jewelry is just exquisite...I particularly like the hat pins!
You are soooooooo lucky to have all of those things from your Grandmother. And they are all so gorgeous too. Love the purse and the garnet necklace and earrings. I think hat pins are so pretty most of the time too.

Loved seeing the collections of your Grandmother's things. Her things are lovely, & the garnetsare expecially interesting. My Grandmother's Birthday is next week & am planning on doing a post on her.
ReplyDeleteThanks for including the pictures of the lucite handbags. I have two of these and carry them often. They are such fun & work with everything.
Thanks ladies, I do appreciate you stopping by for a look at my Grandma's goodies. :-)
ReplyDeleteCandy
Oh Candy, what treasures you have, and how beautifully they are displayed. The lucite purse is so unique, and how smart to have a purse that you can just change the hankie to match your outfit. Her jewelry is equisite. I have my grandmother's folding ruler too. I remember playing with it while she ran the sewing machine. The dresser scarf is beautiful, and what snazzy hat pins. Your grandmother was obviously a very stylish lady. Thank you for linking these wonderful treasures to Favorite Things. laurie
ReplyDeleteHi Laurie -
