I have a question about P86 yellow fiesta: Does retired mean it is "resting" and they may reproduce it someday? I hope so! Does discontinued mean stopped, never to reappear? Thanks! -Beth

ReplyDeleteAmes, I got my reamer on eBay, but Amazon used to carry them also. The repros are made by Retro Kitchen Accents and are NOT marked, mine was $25. The originals can be several hundred dollars depending on condition and are marked Red Wing on the bottom with #256(I think I'm remembering the # correctly).
Beth - there is a lot of cufusion about "retired", "discontinued" .... other than a very few colors like Sapphire (developed for Bloomingdale's), "limited run" colors like Chartreuse and Lilac, there is no telling what will happen to some colors. Here are some press releases from Homer Laughlin from the past ... and most collectors will say, "Never, say never." , when it comes to what will or won't be made in the future.
And remember that some retailers may say that a color is discontinued or retired, when what they mean is that they won't be stocking a particular color anymore. It doesn't always mean production of a certain color at the factory has ceased.

Please note the following important information:
Color Changes:
“Plum”, our newest color, will begin shipping in January of 2002
“Juniper”, a limited-run color, will be retired at yearend, 2001 – orders for Juniper are no longer being accepted.
“Pearl Gray” will be retired at the end of 2001
“Rose” will be phased out during 2002 and retired by yearend.
We’ve changed our minds….
After hearing from many of you, we have decided that we will not retire the ROSE Fiesta color this year after all.
Instead, YELLOW will be retired by the end of 2002.
Actually, a lot of factors entered into this decision, including the fact that the next color introduction will not be in the pastel color palette as originally planned.
Also, sales of YELLOW have declined more quickly than we expected, after the introduction of Sunflower last year.
Most importantly, ROSE remains a strong home decorating color, which prompted many of you to urge us not to retire the color at this time.
Lastly, we hope this news reaches you before your color plans for next Fall and beyond are locked in place.
We sincerely thank all friends of Fiesta for caring enough to offer your input in selecting the Fiesta color palette for 2003 and beyond.

FIESTA COLOR ANNOUNCEMENT
With the addition of our new Peacock color, we are now producing 15 Fiesta colors. In the interest of maintaining reasonable manufacturing schedules, we must reduce the number of colors in production.
Our two lowest volume colors, Rose and Sea Mist Green, will be withdrawn from production according to the following schedule:
We will stop accepting orders on August 31, 2005.
Orders entered between now and August 31st cannot have a customer request date later than December 1, 2005.
All production of Rose and Sea Mist Green will end no later than December 31, 2005.
We will honor any production commitments now in effect for these colors.
We are fully aware that color trends change and that, at some time in the future, there may be a renewed demand for these colors. When that happens, Homer Laughlin may or may not produce Rose and/or Sea Mist Green again.
