The Story of Peter Rabbit

I'm joining Vintage Inspiration Friday over at Common Ground with
some vintage Easter things.

This is a story book about Peter Rabbit that was mine as a child.
It has a copyright of 1940 by the Whitman Publishing Co., Racine, Wis.
It was illustrated by Ruth E. Newton, who was an American
illustrator and doll designer.  She was born March 6, 1884 and died May 27, 1972.

    I love the story of Peter Rabbit and read it to my daughter many times (in our version, the sparrows "implored him to exert himself." Ha.) Yours is beautifully illustrated and a real treasure. Love the china also!

    I love your story book and its illustrations. I had Bunnykins dishes when I was little. I never saw those Peter Rabbit dishes before.

    I loved your story..I've read the story of Peter Rabbit to my sons so many times, but this is a most special book and a lovely one. And I loved your sweet storybook dolls,they're so sweet and perfectly made. Happy VTT..have a wonderful weekend.

    I think it is a story we all remember from our childhood. Did you happen to notice that in this version Peter has 2 sisters and a brother?

    In the original Beatrix Potter version all the siblings were sisters! And did you know that in the original BP version and subsequent stories about these rabbits, Peter's mother was Mrs. Josephine Rabbit, his cousin and father were both named Benjamin Bunny,although his father later became Benjamin Bouncer.

    Candy,this is really funny, but i have this same book, that i found at a flea market and was from 1951. I had it all set to share on this post, but it was long so i decided to not post those pictures. So glad you shared your photos, I just LOVE this book!!
