Primary Colors .... A Tale of Two Parties

Tablescape Thursday has arrived again over at Between Naps On The Porch.

Come on over and see all the beautiful tablescapes.

This vintage tablecloth always reminds me of a birthday party with its primary
colors and old-timey look.  This is how an image of it might have looked
in my Grandma's breakfast room.

Now close your eyes ...... come on, be a kid again and play along!
Put on your rainbow of colors thinking cap and imagine it with all its beautiful colors.
Then open your eyes!

Vintage Fiesta in Yellow, Cobalt, and Red are set out for this birthday celebration.

The round ball jars are from the Kitchen Kraft line by Homer Laughlin and are often

referred to as "cookie" jars.  Vintage candle holders and coffee pot in Yellow and

some of the faceted juice glasses found in some of the "Ensemble" Fiesta sets that combined

pieces from Riviera and Fiesta along with all the accessories needed to set a table.

Different color combinations of dinner, luncheon, and salad plates

along with the cereal bowl and teacup and saucer.

The flatware is "Cityscape" by Oneida.

Time for that eyes shut game again ...... and fast forward about 70 years.




Here is the same vintage tablecloth ready for another birthday party.

All of the elements of this tablescape are contemporary pieces easily found to create

your own old-timey birthday table for a fraction of the cost of vintage pieces.

All the Fiesta on this table is contemporary (1986-present) and is mixed with glassware

from Target and Pier 1, napkins from Tuesday Morning, napkin rings from the web, and

the same Oneida "Cityscape" flatware seen on the vintage tablescape. Post 86 colors

include Scarlet, Sunflower, Sapphire and White.  The salad plates with decorative

ribbons are from Home Goods.

Porcelain Enamel Dinette

Chef Pierre has come down from his perch above the range today to be your guide for a vintage dining experience.

in a post entitled Memories Live In My Kitchen

My vintage Red Wing "Chef Pierre" cookie jar lived with my maternal grandmother for almost 50 years and came to live in my kitchen almost 20 years ago.  This piece was designed by Charles Murphy, a wildlife artist who worked with Red Wing in the 1940s and 1950s.  Chef Pierre was designed in 1941 and there were two companion jars in the series, a Dutch girl and a Monk.

Today Chef Pierre is taking us back in time to a table that could easily have been set

by my grandmother.  The tablecloth is one that she embroidered in a very

popular style of the time with a Mexican theme that complimented her

vintage Fiesta dinnerware.

Not "The Little Round Table" ????

Well you are correct, this isn't the same old same old little round table.

This is a c. 1939 porcelain enamel top table that I've had for a number of years.

The chairs are reproductions from Williams Sonoma.

It has a little drawer that is a great place for flatware.

And a leaf that pulls out and pops up from either side.

Some of these vintage tables came in plain colors and some had decorated tops.

Mine has line drawings of dinnerware, which seemed perfect to go along with

my obsession with all things dish related.

Add Grandma's tablecloth and we're ready to set the table.

The table is now decked out with some of my vintage Fiesta dinnerware. You can read

This tablecloth and napkins were made from fabric designed by Iso Krassi for Marimekko and is currently available on the market. Post 86 Fiesta in Shamrock, Tangerine and Sunflower. KK individual casserole, vintage Fiesta Marmalade in the Royal Chrome rack.  Glassware from Home Goods, flatware is Cityscape., napkin rings from Bed Bath Beyond.
