Happy Valentine's Day
Do you have your hankie handy?
A love story that makes me SOL ...... that's Sob Out Loud .... sigh ......
I had a farm in Africa, at the foot of the Ngong Hills. The equator runs across these highlands, a hundred miles to the North, and the farm lay at an altitude of over six thousand feet. In the day-time you felt that you had got high up, near to the sun, but the early mornings and evenings were limpid and restful, and the nights were cold. ~ Isak Dinesen, Out of Africa
Enter Vera Neumann with her endless talent.
Vera created thousands of beautiful textiles, many of which were based
on her extensive travels around the world. Many of them featured animals
she saw during her travels.
Red spotted giraffes and red striped zebras .....
The print on these vintage Vera napkins was the inspiration for a Valentine tablescape here on The Little Round Table, which in this case is actually a rectangular table. So, courtesy of inspiration by Vera and shopping my house, here is:
LOVE GONE WILD - PURE ANIMAL ATTRACTION
Tablecloth - the flat sheet from a $7 Twin set. That's where the metamorphosis comes in, from sheet to tablecloth in the blink of an eye!
Napkins - eBay
Chargers, candle holders, napkin rings - Pier 1
Polka Dot Fiesta plates exclusive to HLCCA
Goblets - Home Goods

Hi Candy,
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot to say in my comment that Out of Africa is my all time favorite movie. I have an old VCR tape of the movie and Bob and Meryl are my two favorite movie stars.

Candy, Out of Africa is one movie I can watch again and agin. So I'm absolutely "wild" about this post and all the fabulous details. You never disappoint! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteHow fun! The sheet turned tablecloth was a wonderful inspiration (hey, cloth is cloth), and your safari inspired pieces really set the mood for romance and adventure.
ReplyDeletePerfect elements for the era of the photos....well done and fun!!!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite memories from my high school days is viewing "Out of Africa" with a good friend and her family. Her mother is Danish, and all through our dinner following the show, we analyzed the accuracy of MS's Danish accent. We gave everything about the film 5 stars +! Thanks for a tabletop memory of this fun outing!
ReplyDeleteIt is one of my favorite movies also. Fantastic themed table. It is fun to "shop" around the house for a tablescape!
