Newell, W.Va. — (March 2013) — The Homer Laughlin China Company™ is proud to announce its new Fiesta® Dinnerware color for 2013 – Lapis. An intense blue, the gemstone it was named for is thought to be a holy stone or even have magical powers in some cultures. In fact, because of the gemstone’s rich, mesmerizing color, it was among one of the first to be worn as jewelry. Lapis joins the lineup of Fiesta’s iconic colors, some of which have been in production since the reintroduction of the line in 1986. Forty-four colors were produced since the brand was launched in 1936 – more than 75 years ago. Ivory spiral candle holders are vintage Metlox, crystal is Vera Wang "Infinity."

The tablecloth is "Baroque Poinsettia" from Home Goods that I purchased several years ago in an "extra-wide" size to fit this antique pine drop leaf table made from 200 year old planks. At 70" wide it still barely covers the width of the table.

The Menu

Several dips with chips, crackers, bread rounds Brie with Fig jam baked in puff pastry, my daughter's new find from Thanksgiving that was such a hit!

Mashed Potatoes (both garlic and plain)
And this year for the first time the family is doing the rest!
Some surprises to come I'm sure, but so far I know there will be:
Sweet potatoes
Green Salad
Fruit Salad
Rolls
And insert a kids' menu here that includes Tube Steaks (read that as hot dogs!)
and French Fries.  A couple of the grandkids begged for this menu a couple of years ago and now it is a tradition!  Grandma indulges them and they do EAT instead of pushing the real food around their plates.

Dogs Head Mustard Jar

Made by the Homer Laughlin China Company in the first decade of the 20th century.

After calling this a jam jar for many years, I have spotted it in the booklet that David Schaefer and Jeff Kolodey put together for their exhibit at the 2012 Conference. It is shown on Page 11 as #13 Mustard for White Granite Staples.

Tiny Todkins

Some of my "Tiny Todkins" children's dishes from early in the 1900s.

Tiny Todkins decorations were introduced on existing HLC shapes in 1909. The same decals were used by other potteries as well. Four of these pieces are HLC Genesee, two are marked "Germany" within a circle, one is by ELPCO (East Liverpool

Pottery Co) and one is unmarked. See Jo Cunningham's book Homer Laughlin A Giant among Dishes 1873-1939, pp 89-90 There are lots of sports represented, this is just a peek at some of them.

This is a Genesee creamer with the Tiny Todkins treatment.

Here's yet another one depiting football/roller skating. Also by ELPCO (East Liverpool Pottery Company).
