My battle continues

Another five months on the unexpected journey, lots of tests, and  heavy duty chemicals have been thrown into the mix to try to beat this disease.  Seven rounds of chemo under my belt, with five more weeks until the end of this first cycle.

The next step is still in the planning stage and will include an additional surgery to remove regrowth of this rare and aggressive tumor (metaplastic carcinoma), additional rounds of chemo and then some radiation will be added at some point.

I have no hair, but I do have an ever growing collection of hats that may soon be in competition with the dish collection. I miss you all and the banter about dishes.  My focus still remains on winning this battle for my life.  All of your kind thoughts and prayers, cards and letters  are so very much appreciated.  I keep them in a basket next to me and re-read them often, especially on the hard days.

There are still more bad days than good, more tears than smiles, but I am hoping that Spring will bring good news and progress in the battle. Keep talking about those dishes, it gives me hope.

I'll never forget that. You mean the world to so many of us and we love you, think of you and pray for you. Thank you for the update. Take care and know I'm with you!! Candy Strong!!

  9. I'm so glad to see a new post about your progress. I know this journey is awful (having gone through cancer treatment for our daughter many years ago). I've been thinking about you and I pray you'll gain control of this wretched disease. I bet you do have a nice collection of hats! Please take care and know you are in our hearts and prayers.

  11. Candy, I had no idea of your battle until yesterday when Liz from "Infuse With Liz" told me. I am just floored and ever so sorry to hear of what you have been through as well as what you are still facing. It saddens me to know that the bad days far outweigh the good. I hope that Spring does bring for you good news accompanied by good health. Geez...this cancer thing sucks so bad!!! It's so indiscriminate and so sneaky...it's Satan himself!

I love to hear your hat collection is an extensive one as I just started getting into hats last year. I'm talkin' those big Sunday-go-to-meeting hats like you see in the movies. Think Rose as she boards the Titanic! I've never been a hat person, but something just hit me. So now we're both collecting hats. I just wish yours was for a far different reason.

I promise to say your name out loud as I say my prayers each day. I promise to think of you every time I'm asking for faith and mercy. I promise to keep good thoughts on your behalf. Now all you have to do in return is promise me that you will do everything within your power to kick the crap outta cancer and get better soon. :-) Take care. I'm pulling for you.

  12. Hang in there and believe that better days are ahead. When the treatment has you feeling so crappy it's sometimes hard to see very far down the road. My son was diagnosed with Hodgkin's in 2009. It was stage 4. He relapsed twice, but was put on a new drug last year that hadn't even been approved by the FDA when he was first diagnosed. It was the first new drug for Hodgkin's since the 1970's. It put him into remission and he received his brother's stem cells in a stem cell transplant. He's been cancer free for a year. So, you never know what's around the corner. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  13. Candy, I am so sorry the bad days are more than the good days. Hang in there, drink lots of water if you can stand it, and eat fresh fruit if you can stand that too.
I am saying a prayer for you.

My niece and I talk often about how she discovered Fiestaware dishes through your blog. Thank you so much for all your beautiful table settings! They are just too gorgeous for words.

  16. So glad for the update, though I wish you were feeling better! Keep up the fight! I think of you, and check back, often. I'm hoping this fight will soon be a distant memory for you and you can just look at it in the rear view mirror as it fades in the distance....then it can be full speed ahead with living happily cancer free. Prayers for you and your loved ones.

  25. Candy, I recently discovered your blog through Pinterest and I have to say that you won me over to Fiesta! My first set from HLC was delivered last week and today I hosted brunch with friends on my new dishes. My tablescape was not nearly as gorgeous as yours are, but it was a huge improvement for me. I thought of you frequently this morning! Even though you have not been able to post recently, you are still inspiring people! Thank you so much! Praying for ALL good days at your house!!!
